Avanti West Coast is urging passengers to check travel plans this Christmas and New Year, as services will be affected by planned upgrade work on the West Coast Main Line.

Between Christmas Day and 14 January, Network Rail will carry out major work on sections of the line, prompting Avanti to operate an amended timetable from 27 December to 14 January. Passengers travelling to and from London Euston between 27 December and 4 January, as well as services linking Scotland and the North West from 1 to 14 January, may face changes or need to use rail replacement buses.

In addition, Avanti West Coast services will run shorter hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and start later on 27 December and New Year’s Day.

To offer more flexibility during the festive period, peak restrictions have been lifted from Friday 19 December through to Sunday 4 January, allowing customers to access better value fares and travel at convenient times.

Chris Liptrot, Operations Director at Avanti West Coast, said:

“Over the festive period, we’ll be operating an amended timetable, and some journeys will involve a change or rail replacement service due to planned engineering work by Network Rail. If you’re making a journey over Christmas and into the New Year, we strongly advise you plan ahead, as well as check before you travel for the latest updates.”
