Banned Thief Jailed After Stealing Cheese and Butter from Manchester Piccadilly

A woman already banned from Manchester Piccadilly railway station has been jailed after stealing dairy products from one of its shops.

Hayley Skinner, 35, of Wadeson Road, Manchester, took five packets of cheese and four tubs of butter worth £35 on the morning of 17 October. She was detained by shop staff before being arrested by British Transport Police (BTP).

Skinner, who was already subject to a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning her from the station unless travelling with a valid ticket, admitted theft and breaching the order at an earlier hearing. She was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court on 21 October.

Ch Insp James Mitchell from BTP said:

“Skinner's CBO has stringent conditions meaning she isn't allowed into Manchester Piccadilly unless she has a valid ticket and is intending to travel, and her actions on that day show she very clearly did not. Skinner's flagrant disregard for the order meant the court had no option but to give her a custodial sentence, which is an excellent result for the local officers who are working hard to tackle retail crime alongside many other challenges.”
