CAF secures €250 million French contract to supply 22 Régiolis regional trains
CAF has won a new contract in France valued at around €250 million, further strengthening its presence in the French rail sector. The company will supply 22 Régiolis regional trains to SNCF Voyageurs for operations in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, also known as “Région Sud.”
This latest order will expand the region’s fleet, adding to the 17 trains previously purchased by Région Sud. The new trains will replace existing units on the Marseille–Aubagne–Toulon–Hyères line, as well as the Marseille–Toulon–Les Arcs–Draguignan route.
The six-car electric Régiolis trains will be designed and manufactured at CAF’s Reichshoffen plant in Alsace, with Alstom supplying various equipment items. Each train will accommodate 310 passengers and features large panoramic windows, indirect LED lighting, comfortable seating with reading lights and power outlets, and dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. The units will also meet 2023 TSI standards, ensuring compliance with stricter fire and smoke regulations.
Since 2019, CAF has become a key player in France’s rail market, and this new order reinforces the company’s long-term industrial strategy in the country. CAF operates two production sites in France: the Bagnères-de-Bigorre facility for trams and short-train configurations, and Reichshoffen for trains longer than 50 metres. With this latest contract, CAF is consolidating its industrial workload while expanding its role as a trusted partner for local, regional, and national public transport authorities.
CAF is already active on several major French networks, including the RER B commuter line in Paris, Intercités services on the Paris–Clermont, Paris–Toulouse, and Bordeaux–Marseille lines, and tram projects in Montpellier, Marseille, Tours, and Grenoble.
