CCTV appeal after £2,000 worth of bikes stolen from Sussex stations
Officers from the British Transport Police have renewed an appeal for information after a series of bicycle thefts at rail stations across West Sussex, with investigators linking three incidents to the same suspect.
The most recent theft took place on Thursday 5 March at Haywards Heath railway station, where a black Trek bike valued at £550 was taken from a rack at the rear of the station. The owner had left it secured at around 10am before it was stolen later that day.
Detectives believe the same individual is also responsible for two earlier thefts in the area. On Tuesday 3 March, a second bicycle was taken from Hassocks railway station after being locked to a rack at approximately 9am. It was reported missing at around 1pm. The stolen bike was described as a Trek mountain bike with a black frame, beige or brown tyre rims and purple detailing, with an estimated value of £1,000.
A third incident is also being investigated following the theft of a Vitus bicycle worth £800 from Burgess Hill railway station in February.
Police are asking anyone who recognises the man captured in CCTV images, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
