British Transport Police have issued an appeal for information after an attempted robbery involving a young woman at a London Underground station.

The incident took place late on Tuesday 25 November, shortly before 11.30pm, after a 19-year-old woman left a District line service at Stamford Brook Underground station. Officers said she was followed off the train by a man as she made her way out of the station.

On the stairs, the suspect attempted to steal her mobile phone, grabbing at it during a struggle and tearing her jacket. Other passengers stepped in, prompting the man to flee the scene by boarding another train.

Investigators have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to identify, believing he may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises the man is urged to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 506 of 25 November. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
