Delays And Cancellations After Person Hit By Train Near Worthing

Rail services to and from London were disrupted this afternoon after a person was struck by a train near Worthing.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 2.20pm on February 23. Police and paramedics attended the scene close to Worthing railway station, where the injured individual received treatment before being taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.

The incident forced the closure of rail lines towards London, with Southern services between London Victoria and Littlehampton affected in both directions. Passengers are being warned to expect delays of around 30 minutes and cancellations, with disruption anticipated to continue until 6pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to the line near Worthing railway station at 2.21pm today (23 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries that are currently being assessed. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
