Rail services through Carluke have resumed following a fatal incident that brought parts of the network to a standstill during the Monday morning peak.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a person being struck by a train at the Lanarkshire station shortly after 7am on February 16. The line linking Carstairs, Lanark and Motherwell was subsequently closed while officers and paramedics responded.

The disruption had a knock-on effect across routes to and from London, with passengers facing delays of up to an hour and a number of cancellations throughout the morning rush hour.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said:

"We were called to Carluke station at around 7.15am this morning, Monday, February 16, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."

Services were able to restart once the line was reopened, though earlier delays continued to impact some journeys.
