Derby station outrage as man jailed for exposing himself in front of commuters
A man who carried out a shocking act of indecent exposure outside Derby railway station has been jailed following a swift response from police.
Christopher Pittar, 44, of Princip Street in Birmingham, was sentenced to seven months in prison at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 18 March. He had been found guilty of one count of exposure and also admitted a further offence of indecent behaviour while in a police station.
The court heard that shortly before 7pm on 26 February 2025, Pittar was outside Derby station when he lay down on the ground, pulled down his trousers and exposed himself. He then shouted in an apparent attempt to draw attention from passers-by.
A woman who witnessed the incident moved away from the scene and alerted a nearby officer from British Transport Police, who was on patrol. Officers quickly intervened and Pittar was arrested at the scene before being taken into custody.
While in custody, Pittar repeated his behaviour, exposing himself again in front of officers and staff.
In addition to his prison sentence, Pittar was placed on the sex offenders register for seven years and handed a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The order bans him from entering railway stations without a valid reason or ticket and prohibits him from removing clothing or touching himself at stations or on trains. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
Nick Tatlow said:
"Pittar showed no remorse for his senseless behaviour, even repeating his actions while in custody. He targeted a woman with his disgusting actions, and I am thankful to her for reporting the incident so we could bring Pittar before the courts and now behind bars. If you experience or witness a sexual offence on board a train or at a station, I urge you to report it to one of our officers on the network or by texting us discreetly on 61016. We take every report seriously and will stop at nothing to bring sexual offenders like Pittar to justice.”
