Derby–Chesterfield passengers warned of weekend disruption for drainage upgrades
Passengers travelling between Derby and Chesterfield this weekend are being warned to expect disruption as Network Rail begins drainage improvement work along the route. The upgrades, scheduled for Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December, involve renewal at Belper, Ogston and Clay Cross to improve resilience and reduce the risk of flooding.
With engineering work underway, East Midlands Railway will operate an amended timetable between London St Pancras and Sheffield. CrossCountry services heading north from Derby towards the North East are also expected to take longer than normal. On Saturday only, Northern will run a revised timetable on the Nottingham to Sheffield corridor.
Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said:
“We’re carrying out essential drainage upgrades this weekend between Derby and Chesterfield to improve reliability on this key route. These works will help keep services running smoothly in the future, but we appreciate they will cause some disruption this weekend. We’re sorry to anyone whose journey is affected and encourage everyone to check before they travel.”
A spokesperson for the train operating companies added:
“Customers are advised to plan ahead as there will be changes to journeys because of the work between Derby and Chesterfield. We would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst Network Rail renews drainage at these three sites.”
