Ely Rail Delays After Vehicle Strikes Railway Bridge

Rail passengers travelling through the Ely area are facing delays this evening after a road vehicle struck a railway bridge, forcing trains to slow down while inspections are carried out.

The incident means trains are currently operating at reduced speeds on some lines through the area, with disruption expected to continue until around 20:00.

According to railway officials, the bridge was struck by a road vehicle earlier today, prompting the introduction of temporary speed restrictions while Network Rail engineers assess the structure for possible damage.

Passengers are being warned that journeys through Ely could take up to 20 minutes longer than normal while the checks are completed.

Passengers travelling through the region are still able to use their normal routes but are being advised to leave extra time for journeys and continue checking station information boards and live journey planners for updates.
