Grand Central Launches Direct Trains Between Seaham and London
Grand Central is set to introduce a new service to the coastal town of Seaham, located just six miles south of Sunderland, starting 14 December 2025. The addition of Seaham to the North East route will offer enhanced connectivity for both local residents and visitors.
The new stop provides improved rail capacity and makes it easier for travellers to access the town, while also opening up fresh opportunities for commuters. For the first time, Seaham will have a direct train to London, offering a journey of approximately three hours and 30 minutes. This marks a significant development for anyone travelling regularly to the capital or planning trips from the town.
In addition to the London connection, the service will link Seaham with York in 1 hour and 25 minutes and Sunderland in just 10 minutes. There will be four direct services per day in each direction, ensuring flexible travel options for both leisure and business passengers.
The new service is expected to benefit local residents, boost tourism, and strengthen the town’s rail links, making it easier to travel across the region and beyond.
