Greater Anglia finalises major improvement works at Harwich International
Greater Anglia has completed a £1 million improvement programme at Harwich International railway station, aimed at enhancing facilities and creating a more welcoming environment for passengers. The project forms part of the operator’s ongoing investment in station infrastructure across its network.
The work included replacing roofing over the footbridge, staircases and station entrance building, alongside new ceilings throughout those areas. The station has also been fully repainted, giving it a refreshed appearance. In addition, new energy-efficient lighting has been installed to boost visibility and safety while lowering environmental impact.
Upgrades were carried out across four weekends in September, timed to coincide with Network Rail Anglia’s scheduled engineering work on the Colchester/Ipswich – Harwich Town line. The project was delivered jointly with Harwich Port Authority to limit disruption to passengers.
Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure & Major Projects Director at Greater Anglia, said:
“More than 100,000 journeys start or finish at Harwich International railway station every year, and these improvements make a significant difference to the overall passenger experience. The station is now brighter, more modern and more welcoming, while our new energy-efficient lighting reduces our carbon footprint. We would like to thank our passengers for their patience and understanding while this work was carried out, and our partners for their collaboration in delivering this upgrade programme.”
