Passengers using the Heart of Wales line will see a notable boost in services this December, with Transport for Wales confirming an increase from four to five daily trains between Shrewsbury and Swansea via Llandrindod Wells. The move comes as part of the wider December timetable changes and aims to give communities along the rural route greater flexibility.

A new midday service in each direction will be introduced from 14 December, creating more opportunities for day trips, commuting and essential travel. Local tourism bodies are expected to benefit too, with the additional train making it easier for visitors to explore towns and attractions along the line.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, said:

“Railway connections are vital in driving prosperity. These changes will make a real difference to customers, who will benefit from more services across Wales and the Borders. This has been made possible by our £800m investment in brand-new trains for the Wales and Borders network.”

The enhancements form part of a broader update to the Wales and Borders network, with timetable changes set to take effect on 14 December 2025.
