The King met survivors of last month’s Huntingdon train stabbing at a special reception held at Buckingham Palace.

Among those he greeted was train guard Samir Zitouni, who was seriously injured while intervening to protect passengers during the attack. Over ten people were hurt on the 6.25pm service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on 1 November, which was diverted to Huntingdon after the incident.

The monarch also met Andrew Johnson, the driver of the service at the time, who was commended by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for his swift actions in moving the train onto a slow line. This decision allowed the train to stop at Huntingdon station, enabling emergency services to respond more quickly and potentially saving lives.

Mr Zitouni was credited with protecting multiple passengers, though he was left in critical condition after the attack. Stephen Crean, a football fan returning from Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United, was also injured while defending others and now faces plastic surgery to treat his injuries.

Anthony Williams has been charged with ten counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of possession of a bladed article in connection with the attack. He remains in custody, with further court hearings scheduled for next year.
