Rail services along the Cumbrian Coast have been suspended after a landslip blocked the line between Drigg and Seascale, forcing the closure of all tracks through the area.

The incident means trains operating between Barrow-in-Furness and Corkickle are now terminating at Millom. Stations between Millom and Corkickle will not be served while the line remains closed, and disruption is expected to continue until at least the end of the day.

Northern has advised customers not to attempt travel between Millom and Corkickle. Ongoing severe weather in the area has made conditions unsafe for road transport, meaning replacement buses cannot be provided at this time.

To assist affected passengers, tickets are being accepted at no extra cost on TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast services between Carlisle and Lancaster. However, travellers are warned that services on the West Coast Main Line may also be disrupted following an earlier freight train failure.

Northern has confirmed that all ticket restrictions in the affected area, including advance and peak-time conditions, have been temporarily lifted for the duration of the disruption. These restrictions will be reinstated once services return to normal.

Flooding on parts of the A595 has further complicated the situation, with road closures preventing safe operation of replacement transport. Northern says road transport remains on standby and will be reviewed regularly as weather conditions change.

Passengers are being urged to check the latest updates with their train operator before travelling.
