Lines Around Newton Abbot Shut Down as Emergency Incident Blocks Lines
Rail services in Devon were been brought to a standstill after emergency services responded to an incident close to the railway, forcing the closure of all lines in the area.
The disruption is affecting routes between Exeter St Davids railway station and Newton Abbot railway station, with trains halted while emergency crews deal with the situation.
Network Rail worked alongside emergency services to manage the incident as quickly and safely as possible, with an emphasis on handling the situation sensitively.
As a safety precaution, all services in the affected section were been stopped immediately. Trains running through the area were be cancelled, delayed or altered, and disruption was expected to continue until at least 12:15.
Later, a points failure occured meaning trains towards Plymouth have to run at a reduced speed. As a result, trains running through this station may be delayed by up to 20 minutes. Disruption is now expected until the end of the day.
Train operators including Great Western Railway and CrossCountry are putting alternative travel arrangements in place. These include rail replacement buses and ticket acceptance on local bus services.
Passengers are advised to check before travelling, as replacement options and ticket acceptance agreements may change at short notice.
