Major rail upgrades to disrupt Coventry services this weekend
Passengers are being urged to check their journeys ahead of major engineering work taking place around Coventry this weekend, with railway services set to be significantly affected.
Network Rail engineers will be working across the route to renew track, enhance drainage systems and upgrade points — the mechanisms allowing trains to change lines at junctions.
The works form part of efforts to ensure the route remains safe and efficient for the large number of passengers and freight services that travel through the area each week.
As a result of the programme, trains will not stop at Coventry or Birmingham International on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November, and replacement bus services will operate to keep people moving.
Travellers are being advised to use National Rail Enquiries and give themselves more time to reach their destinations while the upgrades are carried out.
Martin Colmey, operations director for Network Rail Central route, said: “These essential track upgrades will help keep the railway safe and reliable for years to come. We know there is never a good time to close the railway but this work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum and we thank passengers for their patience while we do the work. If you're planning to travel, please plan ahead allowing extra time for your journey and check before you travel for the latest journey information and travel advice.”
