Man jailed for raping teen at Essex station six years ago
A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for raping a girl at an Essex railway station six years ago, following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation. The victim reported the attack to police in October 2024, prompting the investigation that led to his conviction.
Marvin Ogbogbo, 23, of Millstone Close, east London, was found guilty of one count of rape last month after a week-long trial at Isleworth Crown Court. In addition to his prison term, he must sign the sex offenders register for life and has been issued a restraining order preventing any contact with the victim.
The offence occurred in 2019, when Ogbogbo, then 17, met the 14-year-old girl via social media. After months of online interaction, he invited her on a shopping trip to Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. Following the visit, the pair went to Chafford Hundred station so he could return to London. There, Ogbogbo took the girl to a sheltered seating area on the platform, repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap, and raped her before boarding a London-bound train.
The victim came forward five years later, enabling police to carry out a full investigation. Officers quickly identified Ogbogbo, who was arrested on 23 December 2024 at Barking police station, where he was attending as part of bail conditions for an unrelated matter. In interviews, he denied the rape, claiming he had only kissed the girl.
Detective Constable Jennifer Brown of BTP said:
“Putting Ogbogbo behind bars for this abhorrent rape is testament to the victim who showed immense bravery in reporting what happened to her. Ogbogbo is a vile predator who targeted an underage girl and groomed her for his own sexual gratification. We take every report of sexual violence extremely seriously and will always launch a full investigation no matter how much time has passed.”
The BTP urged the public to report sexual offences on the railway by texting 61016, or to call 999 in an emergency.
