TransPennine Express (TPE) brought a touch of inspiration and excitement to Oasis Academy in Salford as part of its programme to introduce young people to rail careers.

Over 400 Year 7 and 8 students attended two lively assemblies delivered by TPE’s Safeguarding and Crime Prevention Lead, Stephen O’Callaghan, and Safeguarding and Crime Prevention Coordinator, Ian Hutchinson. Joining them was Nya, TPE’s much-loved Pets as Therapy dog, who supports both staff and customers, and quickly became the star of the morning.

The visit forms part of TPE’s early careers strategy, designed to build strong partnerships with schools and showcase the variety of roles available in the rail industry. The programme includes career talks, workplace visits, and structured work experience placements, supporting the government’s goal for every child to complete 10 days of work experience.

Stephen O’Callaghan said:

“It was brilliant to meet so many enthusiastic young people. Their energy and curiosity were infectious, and Nya certainly helped make the day one to remember. Engaging with schools like Oasis Academy gives us a real opportunity to inspire future generations and show that the rail industry has a place for everyone.”
