Matchday travel chaos as Ipswich to Norwich rail line shut for engineering works
Greater Anglia is urging football supporters to plan their journeys carefully ahead of the Norwich City v Ipswich Town fixture on Saturday 11 April, warning of major disruption across the rail network.
Engineering work scheduled for the day means there will be no direct train services between Ipswich railway station and Norwich railway station. Rail replacement buses will operate, but capacity is expected to be extremely limited.
Fans travelling to the match are being advised to follow the arrangements set out by Ipswich Town Football Club, which include dedicated coach services departing from Portman Road, as well as transfers from Postwick Park & Ride to Lower Clarence Road.
Rail operators have stressed that replacement bus services are not designed to handle the large volumes typically seen on matchdays, and journeys are likely to take significantly longer than usual, particularly during peak periods.
Greater Anglia is working alongside Ipswich Town, local authorities and police to help manage the flow of supporters and ensure travel to and from the fixture is as safe and coordinated as possible.
Martin Moran, Commercial and Customer Services Director at Greater Anglia, said:
“We recognise this is an important fixture for both sets of supporters and we have been working closely with Ipswich Town Football Club and partners to ensure travel arrangements are clear, with the best possible alternative options, given the essential engineering work taking place."
