A person has died after being struck by a train near Potters Bar station, causing major disruption on services to London Kings Cross. Emergency services were called to the scene at 1.41pm on December 31 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The tragedy has affected trains between Stevenage and Kings Cross / St Pancras, with LNER, Thameslink, and Great Northern services experiencing cancellations, delays, or revised routes. Some services have been diverted via Hertford North, while others may terminate before reaching the affected area, particularly those from Moorgate.

Passengers are advised that stopping services may skip certain stations to reduce congestion. National Rail has warned that significant disruption is expected to continue until at least 7.30pm, and possibly longer, potentially affecting New Year’s Eve travel in and out of London.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
