Passengers to Benefit from Improved Great Northern and Thameslink Timetable
Passengers using Great Northern and Thameslink services will benefit from faster journeys and more frequent trains when a new East Coast Main Line timetable comes into effect on Sunday 14 December. The changes follow a £4 billion investment over the past decade, aimed at upgrading the route and enabling additional long-distance services to London from the North of England.
Under the new timetable, commuters can expect additional peak-time services between Cambridge, Letchworth Garden City, and London King’s Cross, easing crowding on busy trains. Morning peak departures will also be added at Hertford North, Bayford, Cuffley, and Crews Hill, providing greater convenience for passengers along the route.
Journey times from key locations will be reduced, including a seven-minute faster trip from King’s Lynn to London, along with quicker services from Cambridge and intermediate stations such as Foxton, Knebworth, and Welwyn North. Departure times will also be more evenly spaced, reducing waiting times for passengers.
Govia Thameslink Railway Chief Operating Officer John Whitehurst said:
“For our customers travelling to and from stations between London, Hertford North, Cambridge and King’s Lynn, this timetable will mean more passenger space at peak times where it is needed most, quicker trips to and from London from key destinations and more evenly spaced departure times so customers don’t need to wait as long for a train. The timetable will also ensure we are ready for new services to be introduced at Cambridge South station when it opens in June.”
