Person dies after being struck by train near Coulsdon South
A fatal incident on the railway in south London led to major disruption on Saturday evening after a person was struck by a train near Coulsdon South.
Emergency services were alerted shortly before 5pm on January 3 following reports of a casualty on the tracks at the station. Despite the response from police and paramedics, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. No details about the individual’s age or gender have been released.
British Transport Police have confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. Officers are now compiling a file for the coroner in preparation for a future inquest.
The incident caused significant disruption to rail services on the busy route between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon. Trains were suspended for several hours while emergency crews carried out their work, with the line fully reopening just before 9.30pm.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at around 4.50pm on Saturday, January 3 near Coulsdon South railway station. Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
