Person Dies After Late-Night Incident on Railway Line in Witham
A person has died after an incident on the railway line in the Essex town of Witham, prompting an emergency response late on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were called to the tracks at around 9.10pm on December 16 following reports of a casualty. British Transport Police confirmed that officers attended alongside paramedics, but despite their efforts the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have said the circumstances surrounding the death are not being treated as suspicious. A file will now be prepared for the coroner as part of the formal process.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called to the railway line in Witham at 9.10pm on December 16 to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
