Rail workers at Northfields fleet maintenance depot are staging four days of strike action this week after what the RMT describes as a collapse in industrial relations with management.

The depot is responsible for servicing Piccadilly line trains, and the union claims the dispute has escalated after managers opted to extend maintenance schedules rather than address staff concerns. According to the RMT, the revised plans would lengthen the intervals between safety-critical checks.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the changes risked compromising passenger safety by operating trains beyond their established maintenance cycles.

Eddie Dempsey, RMT general secretary said:

“LU management has chosen to spend their time drawing up these plans to run trains in passenger service by extending safety critical checks. It is time to stop trying to ride out this dispute and get around the table and take union concerns seriously.”

The strike action is expected to affect operations linked to the upkeep of Piccadilly line rolling stock while the dispute remains unresolved.
