Police stop train at Colchester after weapons report
Train services were temporarily disrupted at Colchester on Wednesday afternoon after reports of a man carrying weapons on board.
The 2.30pm service from London Liverpool Street to Norwich was held at Colchester station while British Transport Police conducted a safety check. Emergency responders were on site, and other trains in the area were running at reduced speeds.
Disruption affected multiple routes, including London Liverpool Street to Norwich, London Liverpool Street to London, London Liverpool Street to Clacton, and the Colchester Town Service.
The incident was later confirmed to be a false alarm, with no weapons found.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said:
“Officers were called to a report of a man with a weapon on board a train to Colchester railway station just after 3.10pm yesterday (January 7). Officers attended, located the man and conducted a thorough search. No weapons were found.”
