Potsdam Introduces Stadler TRAMLINK Trams into Regular Service
ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH has officially launched Stadler’s TRAMLINK trams into regular service, marking a new chapter in sustainable urban transport for Brandenburg’s capital.
The first two of 13 ordered TRAMLINK vehicles began operating in Potsdam yesterday, following successful testing and technical approval. The 42-meter-long trams are approximately twelve meters longer than the previous Variobahn models and can carry up to 246 passengers, including 74 seated. Eight wide doors allow for fast boarding and alighting, while a spacious, bright interior with step-free access ensures a comfortable journey for all.
Bettina Biffi, Commercial Managing Director of ViP, said:
“We are delighted to announce the start of passenger service for the new TRAMLINK tram in Potsdam. This modern tram represents a significant step forward in improving urban mobility and will offer residents and visitors a comfortable, environmentally friendly, and efficient way to get around.”
The TRAMLINK design places emphasis on accessibility and passenger convenience. Parent-child seating, four multifunctional areas for strollers, and two wheelchair-accessible zones cater to different needs. Energy-efficient air conditioning adapts to occupancy, while LED door indicators, USB charging ports, and a modern passenger information system enhance the travel experience.
Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Division Germany, added:
“With TRAMLINK, we are bringing a vehicle to the tracks that combines maximum comfort, accessibility, and energy efficiency. We are proud to take this important step toward sustainable mobility in Potsdam together with ViP.”
The innovative bogie concept with continuous axles promises a smooth ride, and the trams are part of Potsdam’s broader commitment to sustainable, modern, and comfortable public transport for all passengers.
