Rail lines shut between Andover and Basingstoke after emergency incident
Rail services between Andover railway station and Basingstoke railway station have been suspended as emergency services respond to an incident near the line.
Response teams are currently on site, with all lines closed while work is carried out. Disruption is expected to continue until at least 20:00, with services between Salisbury railway station and Basingstoke facing cancellations, delays of up to an hour, or revisions to their routes.
CrossCountry services are particularly affected, as trains had already been diverting between Salisbury and Basingstoke via Andover due to planned engineering work. This has compounded the disruption, leaving fewer options for passengers travelling through the area.
Both CrossCountry and South Western Railway have put alternative travel arrangements in place. Ticket acceptance is currently available on a number of other rail operators and routes, while South Western Railway has also secured acceptance on selected local bus services.
Passengers are being urged to check before they travel and confirm arrangements at their departure station, as availability may vary.
Rail operators have warned that any alternative arrangements or ticket acceptance agreements could be withdrawn at short notice, and travellers should check the latest updates before setting out.
