ScotRail has outlined alternative travel arrangements for customers while essential engineering work takes place to electrify the railway between Edinburgh and Fife.

From Saturday 17 January until Sunday 25 January, no trains will run between Haymarket and Dalmeny as Network Rail carries out round-the-clock work to modernise the route.

To help passengers continue their journeys, ScotRail will operate diverted train services where possible, alongside rail replacement buses serving local stations. Other public transport options will also be available. Passengers are being urged to check their journeys in advance and familiarise themselves with the alternative arrangements. A full route-by-route guide can be found on the ScotRail website.

The Fife project forms part of the Scottish Government’s broader programme to decarbonise Scotland’s Railway, aiming to deliver cleaner, quieter, and more reliable travel in the long term.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said:

“The work being carried out by Network Rail is a critical step in the electrification of the railway in Fife and will deliver long-term benefits for customers. We recognise that this type of disruption can be inconvenient, and we’re grateful to customers for their patience and understanding while these vital improvements are completed. By setting out clear alternative travel arrangements in advance, we want to give customers the information they need to plan their journeys with confidence. Some journeys will take longer during the works, but we’ll continue to provide support and clear information to help keep customers moving. I’d urge everyone to plan ahead and check their journey before travelling, either on our website or via the ScotRail app.”
