Shock Attack on Train in St Austell Sparks Police Investigation

Police are continuing to investigate after a train was targeted by a brick-throwing incident in Cornwall, leaving the service damaged and out of operation.

The attack happened in the St Austell area on the evening of April 6, when a train travelling towards Plymouth was struck. Although no injuries were reported, the impact caused enough damage for the train to be withdrawn from service.

Officers from the British Transport Police were called to the line at around 6.25pm following reports of the incident. A search of the surrounding area was carried out, but those responsible had already left.

Investigations remain ongoing as police work to identify those involved, with an appeal now issued for information from the public.

A BTP spokesman said:

“Officers were called to the line in St Austell at 6.25pm on April 6 following reports that a brick had been thrown at a train. Thankfully, no-one sustained any injuries. Officers quickly attended and conducted a full search of the area, however, the suspects had left the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 quoting ref 508 of 06/04/26.”

Anyone with information is urged to come forward by contacting police via text or phone, quoting the relevant reference number.
