Signalling fault at Leeds causes widespread rail disruption
A signalling fault at Leeds earlier caused significant disruption across the rail network, with multiple lines blocked and services cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, diverted, or revised to allow normal service to recover. Network Rail engineers have been on site to rectify the issue and lines have now reopened although disruption is still expected until at least 19:00.
The problem is affecting a wide range of services. CrossCountry trains between Birmingham New Street, Bristol Temple Meads, Penzance, Plymouth, and York are impacted, as are LNER services linking London Kings Cross with Leeds and Bradford Forster Square. All Northern services to and from Leeds are affected, along with TransPennine Express routes between Liverpool Lime Street and York, Manchester Airport/Manchester Victoria and Redcar Central, Manchester Victoria and Scarborough, and Leeds and Hull.
CrossCountry is diverting services away from the affected area, meaning Leeds and Wakefield Westgate stations will not be served. Limited rail replacement transport has been arranged between York and Leeds, and ticket acceptance has been arranged across other operators. Passengers are advised to check with their operator before travelling.
LNER has urged customers to defer travel until 1 December where possible, while also arranging ticket acceptance on other services. Northern has asked passengers to only travel if necessary and that no replacement transport is available, though ticket acceptance on alternative operators has been arranged.
TransPennine Express is advising customers not to travel at this time, as no trains are running in the area and no replacement transport is available. Limited ticket acceptance has been made available on other operators, with passengers urged to confirm arrangements before starting their journey.
