Signalling Fault at Sholing Causes Chaos During Evening Rush

Rail passengers in the Sholing area are facing disruption after a signalling fault forced trains to operate at reduced speeds on certain lines.

Services between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour are among those affected, with cancellations, revisions and delays of up to 10 minutes reported. The issues are expected to continue until at least 22:30.

Travellers heading to or from Southampton are being warned to expect short-notice alterations. Some trains may start or terminate at different stations than usual, and passengers are advised to check departure boards before setting off.

Due to the ongoing problem, alternative routes may be required and journeys could take longer than planned. Customers are being urged to allow at least 20 extra minutes to complete their trip.

Southern has confirmed that ticket acceptance is in place across a number of operators and routes to help ease the impact. However, passengers are reminded that any alternative arrangements or ticket acceptance agreements can be withdrawn at short notice and should check with their chosen operator before travelling.
