Sevenoaks and Otford have become the first railway stations in Kent to introduce on-site car club vehicles, following the launch of a new pilot scheme by Southeastern in partnership with Enterprise Car Club.

Dedicated parking bays have been installed at both stations, allowing passengers to hire car club vehicles through the Enterprise Car Club app or website. The scheme is designed to provide a practical alternative to private car ownership, particularly for journeys where public transport options are limited.

The initiative focuses on improving so-called last-mile connections, helping passengers complete the final part of their journeys more easily once they leave the train. Southeastern said the additional travel option is intended to remove barriers to rail use, encourage more people to choose the train and support more sustainable travel habits by reducing dependence on privately owned vehicles.

Southeastern’s Commercial Director Alicia Andrews said:

“We all look forward to getting to our destination, but it can be the hardest part. By adding Enterprise Car Club cars at Sevenoaks and Otford, we’re giving club members a seamless way to do the last few miles without owning a car. This is part of our strategy to help passengers complete their first and last mile whether by walking, bike, bus or shared transport so more people can choose the train.”

The car club trial forms part of a wider programme aimed at strengthening links between rail travel and other flexible transport options. Southeastern has also been working with shared bike operators Lime and Forest to introduce designated parking areas at stations, making it simpler for passengers to combine cycling with rail journeys.

Enterprise Mobility’s Vice President and General Manager of Southeast England Tori Patrick said:

“Whether commuting for business or leisure, adding car club vehicles to railway stations makes travel easier and more convenient. Enterprise Car Club is proud to provide a sustainable and cost-effective shared mobility solution for the last mile of the journey.”

Enterprise Car Club currently operates more than 1,300 vehicles across 220 towns, communities, housing developments and transport hubs nationwide. At Sevenoaks and Otford, the service is open to all customers, offering a flexible and cost-effective way to complete journeys that are not easily served by public transport.
