Southeastern’s 09:36 train from St Pancras to Canterbury West became a moving celebration of Christmas today, delivering 200 toys to children supported by Kent charity Demelza as part of Railway 200 festivities.

The special service, organised in partnership with UK toy companies Mood Bears, Hornby, and Asmodee, and with guidance from toyologist Peter Jenkinson, brought festive fun to passengers while supporting families in need. All toys were donated to Demelza, which operates three hospice centres providing care for children with serious illnesses and their families.

During the hour-long journey, passengers experienced storytelling from a Dickensian performer, explored Hornby model trains, played board games from Asmodee, and were visited by ‘Hope,’ a six-foot mascot from Mood Bears.

After arriving at Canterbury West, guests enjoyed the Canterbury Christmas Market and took part in a self-guided city tour organised by Mystery Guides, combining historical discovery with interactive treasure hunt fun.

Hayley Richardson, Deputy CEO of Demelza, said:

“We’re so grateful to Southeastern for the support they have shown Demelza this Christmas. The donation of 200 toys is incredibly generous and will bring joy to so many over the festive period.”

Sam Cornelius, On-Board Depot Manager, Southeastern, said:

"It's been wonderful to be involved in such a special day. Seeing the joy on our passengers' faces during the journey and knowing that we're delivering 200 toys to children at Demelza makes this really memorable. Supporting a hospice in the heart of the communities we serve is what the festive season is all about."
