Stockport To Sheffield Rail Disruption After Tree Blocks Line At New Mills

Passengers travelling between Stockport and Sheffield are facing disruption after a tree blocked the railway at New Mills.

All lines through the affected area are currently blocked, with trains subject to delays of up to 60 minutes, cancellations or revised schedules.

A team is on the way to the site to assess the situation and remove the tree from the railway.

Services running through the area in both directions will be diverted where possible. Where diversion is not available, trains may be delayed or cancelled.

Passengers are being advised to continue travelling as planned, but to allow for disruption and possible delays to their journeys.

East Midlands Railway is currently looking at alternative arrangements to help passengers keep moving.

TransPennine Express has said some services may be diverted between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield via an alternative route. Trains using that diversion will not be able to serve Stockport and may still be delayed.

Passengers can check their journeys using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Disruption is currently expected to continue until 8.30pm.
