Police investigating the robbery of a bicycle at Seaburn Metro station have released images of two teenagers they would like to identify as part of their enquiries.

The incident took place at around 2.45pm on Friday 12 December on the Newcastle-bound platform at the station. An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were waiting with their bikes when they were approached by two teenagers.

Officers say the teenagers demanded the boys hand over their bicycles and threatened them with violence. One of the boys gave up his bike, while the other tried to run away.

The boy who attempted to escape was caught and assaulted, although the situation was interrupted when a member of the public stepped in. The intervention stopped the attack and prevented the second bike from being taken.

British Transport Police believe the teenagers shown in the released images may have information that could assist with the investigation into the incident.

Anyone who recognises them is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 209 of 14 December. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
