Trains halted after body discovered on tracks at Longport
Emergency services were sent to a section of railway in Stoke-on-Trent this morning after reports of a person on the tracks.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the Longport area shortly after 11.10am. As the incident unfolded, all rail services through the area were suspended, with trains cancelled while officers secured the scene. A cordon was put in place and blue screening erected beside the tracks.
British Transport Police later confirmed that a person had been found dead on the railway line. Despite the response from emergency services, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The discovery caused significant disruption to rail services while initial enquiries were carried out and safety procedures completed. Services were halted during the height of the incident as officers worked at the location.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
"We were called to Longport Station following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
