TransPennine Express (TPE) is embarking on one of its largest security upgrades to date, installing more than 600 new high-definition cameras across its stations.

The £4.4 million programme will provide sharper images, broader coverage, and quicker access to footage, enabling staff and police to respond more efficiently to incidents while enhancing passenger confidence. A key feature of the upgrade is a new monitoring system capable of detecting suspicious movement outside normal operating hours, ensuring stations are safeguarded around the clock.

Chris Nutton, Major Projects Director for TPE, said:

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues is incredibly important to us. CCTV doesn’t just deter bad behaviour; it provides the evidence that brings offenders to justice. Stations will be safer places thanks to these improvements. We’re proud to be investing in technology that protects our people and gives customers peace of mind.”

All 19 stations managed by TransPennine Express are expected to have the new system fully operational by Spring 2026, marking a significant step forward in the operator’s commitment to passenger and staff safety.
