Union Commends “Bravery” of Rail Workers After LNER Stabbings
Rail union RMT has praised railway staff for their response during the mass stabbing incident that took place on board a London-bound train on Saturday night. The union highlighted the actions of employees who helped manage the situation and supported emergency services.
The incident occurred on an LNER service heading to King’s Cross, which was diverted to Huntingdon station after passengers sounded the alarm. The move allowed police and medical teams to respond quickly and attend to the victims.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “Today I am spending time with RMT members working for LNER and our wider railway family.
“I won't be doing any media interviews until the authorities have established the full facts of this horrific mass stabbing onboard an LNER train.
“I want to commend the professionalism, bravery and steadfastness of all the railway workers involved from the train crew to the driver and our members in operations who quickly assisted in diverting the King’s Cross bound train into Huntingdon station, allowing the police and emergency services to take swift action.
He added that the union would push for urgent discussions to improve support and protection for staff. “I will be seeking urgent meetings with government, rail employers and police to ensure that we have the strongest possible support, resources and robust procedures in place to protect our members and the traveling public.”
