Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two men were assaulted at Clacton-on-Sea railway station. The incident took place at around 5.45pm on Tuesday 11 November in the exit walkway near platform four, where the pair were confronted by a larger group. One of the victims was knocked to the ground before being repeatedly punched and kicked.

The station was busy with commuters at the time, and police say several members of the public are likely to have seen what happened. Among them was a man who stepped in to challenge the attackers, and officers are particularly keen to speak with him as part of their investigation.

British Transport Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses, or the man who intervened, can contact police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 203 of 11 November. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
