WMATA Green Line Single-Tracking Scheduled Through December 30, Riders Urged to Plan Ahead
Metro riders on the Green Line should prepare for single-tracking between U Street and Georgia Avenue-Petworth from 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, through system closing on Tuesday, December 30.
While all stations will remain open, trains will run every 16 minutes during the construction period, leading to longer wait times than usual. Yellow Line service will operate every 8 minutes between Mt. Vernon Square and Huntington to help maintain capacity.
Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternative bus options, including the D40 and D4X along Georgia Avenue NW, D50 and D5X along 14th Street NW, D60 and D6X along 16th Street NW, C51 and C53 along U Street NW, and the C61 along Columbia Road/Irving Street NW.
Metro crews are performing essential work to enhance safety and reliability, including replacing rail and fastening systems, upgrading communications and signal equipment, and restoring station lighting. The work was scheduled over the holiday period to reduce disruptions when ridership is typically lower.
Following the completion of this construction, the Yellow Line extension to Greenbelt will begin on December 31. Half of the Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Greenbelt, with the remainder running between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square.
