Three newly painted High Speed Train power cars and a set of Mk3 coaches have been formally unveiled by 125 Group and 125 Preservation, marking another milestone in preparations for the 50th anniversary of the HST.

The reveal took place on 23 January 2026 during a members-only event held at UK Rail Leasing’s Loughborough site. Members arrived from midday and were given an exclusive opportunity to view the latest restoration work up close, alongside a guided tour of the facility. The event also included refreshments and a raffle, making it both a celebration of progress and a social gathering for supporters of the group.

The unveiling showcased two restored power cars presented in three different historic liveries, each representing a significant era in HST operation. Power car 43025 now carries InterCity Swallow colours, 43048 has been finished in Midland Mainline livery, and 43060 appears in the blue of GNER. Alongside the power cars, three Mk3 coaches were also presented, complementing the work undertaken to return a complete and authentic HST formation to service.

The repainted vehicles reflect the ongoing efforts of 125 Group and 125 Preservation to conserve and operate examples of Britain’s most successful high-speed diesel trains. The choice of liveries highlights the wide geographical reach and long service life of the HST, which became synonymous with inter-city rail travel across much of the UK from the late 1970s onwards.

Members have been encouraged to look out for the newly finished vehicles during the coming year, with appearances planned on railtours and at preserved railways. These outings will form part of wider celebrations leading into and throughout 2026, marking 50 years since the introduction of the High Speed Train into service.
