Amtrak Restores Direct Albany-Boston Lake Shore Limited Service
Amtrak has resumed direct train service on the Lake Shore Limited between Albany-Rensselaer and Boston, ending several months of replacement bus operations. Travelers can now once again experience the scenic journey through New England and New York’s Capital Region.
Train 449 departs Boston at 12:50 p.m. and arrives in Albany at 6:10 p.m., while Train 448 leaves Albany at 3:27 p.m., reaching Boston at 8:32 p.m. The service makes a daily stop in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, providing convenient access to the Berkshires by rail.
Earlier this year, a landslip near Albany forced the closure of the Post Road Branch, necessitating temporary bus service between the two cities. Amtrak crews worked six days a week, ten hours a day, to repair the line and restore train operations as quickly as possible.
Amtrak highlighted the collaborative effort behind the restoration, thanking partners in New York State, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the Federal Railroad Administration for their support in reconnecting the Capital Region with New England. The company also welcomed back the more than 80,000 passengers who rely on the route each year.
