Coroner opens inquest into death on tracks near Oxford
A 54-year-old man who died on railway tracks in Oxfordshire has been formally named at the opening of an inquest into his death.
Emergency services were called to the line near Kidlington at around 6.45am on Monday, January 19, following reports of a fatality. British Transport Police confirmed at the time that a person had died on the railway near the village.
At a hearing held to open the inquest, the man was named as Alexis O'Connor, originally from Southampton. The court was told he worked as a computer programmer and was living in Kidlington at the time of his death.
The inquest heard that Mr O'Connor died at Roundham Level Crossing in Partridge Place, Kidlington, at 7.42am. His cause of death was recorded as massive trauma. He was formally identified by British Transport Police the following day through fingerprint comparison.
Area coroner Nicholas Graham opened the inquest on Thursday, February 5, and adjourned proceedings until July 1 at 10.45am, when it is due to resume.
Following the incident in January, the railway between Oxford and Banbury was fully closed and all services were cancelled. Train services were able to resume shortly before midday.
