Inquest Opens Into Death of Man Struck by Train Near Brierfield

A 25-year-old man died after being struck by a train near Brierfield earlier this month, an inquest has heard.

Mason Macari, of Stockbridge Road in Padiham, was hit close to Brierfield Junction on the Blackburn to Colne line at around 11:15am on 5 February. He was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Preston Coroners’ Court on Wednesday 25 February. The hearing was told Mr Macari was born in Burnley on 26 October 2000 and was formally identified through fingerprint evidence.

Area Coroner Emma Mather said:

“He likely died from trauma. He suffered severe head trauma.”

A full inquest is scheduled to take place at Accrington Town Hall on 25 June before Assistant Coroner Sian Jones.
