Lumo Train Breakdown Forces ECML Blockage and Service Cancellations
A train fault between Peterborough and Grantham has led to significant disruption on the East Coast Main Line, with fast lines currently blocked and services being diverted onto the slow lines. Rail operators warned that trains passing through the affected area could face cancellations or delays of up to 15 minutes.
The incident involves a Lumo service operating as 1S93, the 11:20 departure from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley. The Class 803 unit, numbered 803003, became disabled near Little Bytham. An LNER train was brought alongside the stranded service to allow passengers to be evacuated safely from train to train.
Rail staff have confirmed that a locomotive has been dispatched to recover the failed Lumo unit once the evacuation process is complete. The complexity of the operation has contributed to ongoing congestion on the route, with knock-on effects expected to persist well into the evening timetable.
Lumo has also confirmed cancellations to later services as a direct result of the disruption. The 16:26 departure from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross and the 21:57 service from London Kings Cross to Newcastle will no longer run. Passengers are being advised that ticket acceptance arrangements are being put in place, but they should check with their operator before travelling.
