Emergency services were called to Branchton train station on Wednesday evening after a man was discovered injured close to the railway line. The incident prompted a significant response at around 6pm, with Police Scotland, British Transport Police and Scottish Ambulance Service crews attending.

Officers were initially alerted following reports expressing concern for the welfare of an individual near the tracks. The man was later taken to hospital, with British Transport Police confirming on Thursday morning that his injuries appeared to be the result of falling from a bicycle.

A helicopter was seen in the wider area later that night, however there is no known connection between that sighting and the incident at the station.

British Transport Police said the man received medical treatment for his injuries following the response by officers and paramedics.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police told the Tele:

"Officers and paramedics attended, and a man was taken to hospital for medical treatment of injuries consistent with having fallen off a bicycle."
