Man Identified After Fatal SEPTA Train Strike in Bristol Township
A man who was fatally struck by a SEPTA train in Bucks County over the weekend has been formally identified by the county coroner.
The Bucks County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as Jonathan Paul Hernandez, aged 41, who was experiencing homelessness at the time of his death. Coroner Patti Campi said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon and remains under active investigation.
Authorities said Hernandez was struck at around 12:30 p.m. on a stretch of railway between Croydon and Bristol stations in Bristol Township. He was hit by an inbound SEPTA Regional Rail service.
SEPTA spokesperson John Golden said Hernandez was trespassing on the tracks when the collision took place. Emergency crews from the Croydon Fire Company, Bristol Township Police Department, and representatives from both SEPTA and Amtrak were dispatched to the scene along Route 13.
The response to the incident led to a temporary suspension of SEPTA Trenton Line services on Saturday. Trains operating along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor were also delayed while emergency crews and investigators worked at the location.
