Detectives investigating a rape at Leatherhead rail station in Surrey have released CCTV images of a man they wish to trace.

The incident occurred at around 11pm on 23 August. Police say the victim was walking through an alleyway leading to the station when a man approached her and began talking. He then struck her on the back of the head and raped her.

Both the victim and the suspect boarded a London-bound train, disembarking at Cheam. Shortly before midnight, the victim was found lying beside the road outside Cheam station by a passer-by.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Winters of British Transport Police said:

“This was an abhorrent attack targeting a young woman late at night. The victim has been receiving specialist support as our investigation continues, and we are appealing to the public to assist our efforts to track down the man responsible. If you know the man in the CCTV images, please contact us, as we believe he may be able to help us with our ongoing enquiries.”
