British Transport Police have issued an image of a woman they want to speak to in connection with the assault of a child at Balham railway station.

The incident occurred at around 8am on Thursday 20 November. Officers say a young girl was passing through the ticket barrier when a woman she was with struck the side of her head, causing her to hit a nearby wall. Two members of the public intervened, at which point the woman became aggressive and threatening. Both the woman and the girl, believed to be of primary school age, then left the scene.

Police are working to identify the woman and ensure the child’s welfare. They believe the individual in the released image may have information that could assist their investigation.

Anyone who recognises her is asked to text British Transport Police on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 117 of 20 November. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
